As the second day of proceedings drew to a close yesterday, Outlook Plus Latin America has been declared a success by its participants. More than 250 attendees convened in Sao Paolo for the event, which ends today. “We were very impressed with the number of attendees, and the range of participants at the conference.” says Antonio Fernando Elias, commercial area representative for Klabin. “We were very happy to see this event take place in Brazil, which has a growing industry, with increasing number of local producers and range of products being made. Outlook Plus gave us a chance to talk to both customers and suppliers, both those representing Brazil and markets across the globe.” Organized by the two global nonwoven trade associations, EDANA in Europe and INDA in North America, it is the first conference of its kind in Latin America. Examining market, product and technology intelligence for hygiene and personal care during the first two days, Outlook’s third and final day is focused on durable nonwoven applications and future opportunities. EDANA established the Outlook brand a decade ago has hosted conferences under the moniker in Europe, Asia and the Middle East. With a comprehensive conference program and networking activities to encourage interaction, participants declared the event a valuable chance to bring the global industry together at the heart of Latin America. Opening the conference, keynote presenter Roberto Macedo, Ph.D., outlined the global and regional economic prospects for the Mercosul Region (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Venezuela). Other speakers represented BASF, Brascam, Parafix, Euromonitor, PGI, Suominen and Unicharm. A rich source of potential business for the nonwovens industry, Latin America continues to grow rapidly in both disposable and durable markets for nonwovens. This week, Suominen announced it would begin distributing medical grade spunlace out of its Brazilian operation, proving the viability of this market, and Suzano announced its intention to begin producing fluff pulp in the region.
